drug-induced wedding dreams.
Posted by Sara in Weddings.
So instead of the camping trip that D and I have had planned for the last month, the two of us took turns fetching each other tissues, juice refills, and soup while watching Arrested Development and a barrage of movies.
Of course, drugs have been involved in this weekend: dayquil, nightquil, cometrex day and night, zyrtec, etc., all in the hopes of a more speedy recovery.
Although I’m not sure if that’s the case, they certainly have allowed for some strange, trippy dreams.
One in particular that stands out:
It was our wedding day, and I was wearing the wrong dress. It was this slate gray long dress that looked very much like what I picked out for my bridesmaids. Anyway, we (me, D, the bridal party, etc.) were all milling about on my grandmother’s lawn, half ready and seemingly confused. I know I didn’t have my hair or make up done, and I think I was wondering where the hell the dress came from. At some point I realized that we should be on my grandmother’s lawn (which in real life was where we initially were planning on having the ceremony), but at the venue we’re getting married at. I also realized that it was 1:30 right then, which was the time we were supposed to get married and I had totally missed all my appointments for my hair and make up.

My engagement ring wasn’t really much of a surprise–in fact, we went together to pick it out. One day, D said, “we should go get you a ring” and the next day we were in Helzberg Diamonds. It didn’t really take too long; I knew exactly what I wanted: a simple white gold band with a solitaire diamond. The man at the jewelry store was very nice and took his time showing us the diamond under different microscope settings, explaining how the diamond’s cut created different shapes which you could see in certain lights– hearts, diamonds, and more. Of course, more than a year later I’m completely clueless about any of the special features of my diamond. I know some girls who still know all that, but I don’t even know the exact carat size. To me, that isn’t important. I just know it’s the style I like and it sparkles. Yes, even cynical little me can be taken by shiny things…
Weddings | Comment (1)Give your DVD player something to Hulk out about: Hulk DVD release information
Posted by Donnie in Movies.
For those of you out there who’ve been waiting, or remotely care, The Incredible Hulk’s release date has been set for October 21.
The movie was directed by Louis Leterrier and stars Edward Norton and Tim Roth, Liv Tyler and William Hurt. The film will be available in three versions: a three-disc Special Edition DVD available for a limited time only; a two-disc Blu-ray release, offered in collectible 3D lenticular packaging for a limited time only; and a single-disc DVD edition.
Both the Special Edition DVD and Blu-ray releases include more than 2 hours of bonus extras, including an exclusive, never-before-seen alternate opening and a digital copy of the film that is iPod, PC or MAC compatible. The two-disc Blu-ray set will also include all-new, interactive features including My Chat, an application that allow viewers to communicate with friends and family while watching the film.

Posted by Sara in Weddings.
so as we draw closer to our wedding, we’re beginning to pick up all the last minute things that we need, mainly all the crap that sits out on the front table that later will get stored in the closet: the guest book and the big box to hold the money envelopes.
I’ve actually been looking around for these things for some time, just to get an idea, but kept pushing it off. I saw ones that I liked, namely ones that were pretty basic and had brown ribbon involved (since the brown matches the bridesmaid’s dresses). No big deal, I assumed, we can pick up the little things closer to W day.

Show: The Hills
Episode: “We’ll Never Be Friends” (4×01)
You Can Watch It: Mondays at 10pm on MTV
During the fourth season premiere of MTV’s not-so-real reality series The Hills (YES! It’s back!), we learned a lot. First, we learned that Lauren still has the worst dating skills in the history of pretty young blondes when she ditched her hunky former prom date Whatshisface to play mediator to Lo and Audrina at the pool birthday party the blondes threw for their brunette roomie. Hello! You admitted that you haven’t had a relationship last longer than one date since Heidi and Spencer set you up with someone. That should be a clue. Maybe she’ll make more of an effort to give the cameras some romantic drama to document instead of just cat fights. Then we learned that Lo is not just a bitch, she’s psychotic. Continue reading »
TV Rewind | Comment (0)The day the music died
Posted by Sara in Weddings.
I have been trying as much as humanly possible to have everything planned/taken care of for the wedding before the end of this month. Since we’re getting married in September, I want those last couple of weeks to be stress-free, and focused on just ironing out any last-minute details. And for the most part, we’re doing OK… of course though, there’s always something that just won’t go quite to plan.
Our “something” has been the ceremony music. Months and months ago, we met the musicians who were recommended by our venue: two violinists who were classically trained. They played at our tasting and my dad was a huge fan. Considering they were backed by the venue gave us confidence in their abilities and plus, we were able to hear them in the flesh. This is an easy one , I thought. As I’m sure you’re able to figure out from the blog title, I totally thought wrong…
Weddings | Comment (0)A Look at Lucy’s Life
Posted by Lindsay in Editors.
As we debut our third issue, it’s hard to believe that about six months ago, Lucy was just an idea tossed out into cyberspace. It all started with a February email from our editor-in-chief. She was disappointed with the offerings of the newsstand at the train station (and with good reason). To me, it seems like many women’s magazines are focused on the unattainable. From the PhotoShop magic of their covers through their pages of fashion you can’t afford, many women’s magazines expect you to want to be someone else. I may not be able to afford $600 shoes, but I like who I am and who my friends are, and I think we deserve more than half-assed tips on taboo sex. So I clicked reply and we went from there.
Since that email, Lucy has grown faster than I could have imagined. We have readers! We have writers! We have meetings! It’s all so exciting—and a little surreal—to me. The editors are on either side of the Atlantic Ocean and writers are spread out all over the US and parts of Europe. We don’t have a big magazine budget, but we’re making due. Distance does prove a challenge to us sometimes; many of our meetings are actually email conversations or discussions over Skype. Kate, Sara and I try to work on Lucy as much as possible, and you can expect to see a lot of changes in the coming months. We are going to focus on promoting ourselves through advertising and also providing relevant advertising (not just basic Google ads) on our site, making a presence on social networking sites, expanding our blogging efforts and spiffing up our look. We’ll probably work on a few other things that pop in to our minds, so check back or sign up for our mailing list. There could be some things you want to see between now and our October issue.
One area that will definitely see some work is our layout. We are going to concentrate on making the site look more like the magazine we see in our minds. Lucy’s explosion on to the scene lead us to a simple look that highlights on the writing, and that won’t change; the look will just be more polished around the edges. We have big ideas and we hope that you will bear with us as we grow. Your friend Lucy is coming into her own, and she wants to share her stories, her experiences and her thoughts with you. And if you’re interested in making it a conversation, consider writing for us. Please keep your eye out for a reader’s survey as well, and in the meantime, feel free to contact us with anything you would really like to see here.
Thanks for reading, and remember: Everyone needs Lucy in her life.
Editors | Comment (1)Review: Pineapple Express
Posted by Lindsay in Movies.
I’m a little asthmatic right now, and it’s not because I just smoked a bowl. Tonight I saw Pineapple Express , and I laughed so hard that I could—and can—hardly breathe. Seth Rogen and James Franco, who last worked together on Judd Apatow’s television show Freaks and Geeks, shine as a pothead and his dealer who become “bfffs” (best fucking friends forever) by running from a murderous drug dealer and his cronies. Action movies and stoners go together like Doritos dipped in chocolate pudding, right? It’s a combination that, surprisingly, works—especially with this cast.
Movies | Comment (0)Mamma Mia: I’m so happy, I could sing along (coming to a theater near you)
Posted by Sara in Movies.
Who would have known that 70s pop sensations ABBA would rise to become cult favorites? Following the trend of many beloved iconic groups, ABBA saw a revival when the musical Mamma Mia! hit broadway. Since then, a new generation has been exposed to the classics “Dancing Queen,” “Take a Chance on Me” and of course, “Mamma Mia,” bringing this Swedish pop sensation back into the limelight.
Smartly, the band refuses to do a “comeback tour” (as Björn Ulvaeus stated in a recent interview, she prefers fans remember them as they once were–”young” and “full of energy”). But that doesn’t stop them from allowing their music to be marketed in TV and film.

Show: In Plain Sight
Episode: “Stan By Me” (1×11)
You Can Watch It: On ips.usanetwork.com because the season has ended.
This week on In Plain Sight , the writers decided to give everyone a heart condition by making sure that there was not a second during which this show was airing that any loyal viewer could breathe. The silver lining, however, was that we got a ton of answers about the whole Brandi’s suitcase of meth storyline. While on her way to work, Mary notices that she’s being followed and she easily looses her tail, but not before spotting her mother walking down an Albuquerque street dressed like a hooker.
