So I was inspired by our other photo-posting bride and I figured I owed y’all who read this a photo of us from the wedding. I tried to upload one from our big dance number, but I couldn’t get it to aligned properly.
Weddings | Comment (1)The Wedding Industry…enforcing positive body image?!

Or, “My totally unexpected wedding dress success story.”
This is my first post in the Wedding blog, so let me introduce myself quickly: I’m a 23-year old queer casual femme who has been planning her wedding for almost two years… and somehow, I’m still in the beginning stages. I’m engaged to an awesome man, a guy I knew I would marry shortly after we met at age 15 (even if I didn’t know much else about myself back then). We’ve both grown a lot since then, separately, but somehow amazingly in the same direction. After a 4-year relationship hiatus, we got back together in college and knew we were meant to be. We got engaged on January 1, 2007 and we’ve finally attempted to set a date for Sept. 13, 2009. We haven’t picked a place yet because of a long and painful saga trying to find a kosher caterer in Eastern Pennsylvania — but that’s a blog post for another time. I’m an Indiebride wanna-be but taming the indie-bridal beast is an ever more daunting task. So hopefully I’ll use my trials and tribulations to help you find a comfy spot between the industry rock and the indie hard place.
So, let me tell you how I was totally shocked by David’s Bridal. Continue reading »
Weddings | Comment (1)Don’t Gimmie that Blacktalk, Young Lady!
Posted by Jaki in The Opposite of Advice.
Here is the scene:
I’m at work. My two coworkers were heading out for lunch. A customer was walking up to speak to me but he hadn’t reached me yet. I turn to my coworker and say something to the effect of, “Where ya’ll headed at?” It’s important to note that everyone in this situation is a Black person. The customer reaches my window and promptly proceeds to let me have it.
“‘Where ya’ll headed at?’” he fusses, “I know your mother taught you better than that! That nigger shit is why people don’t take Black people seriously!” With that, he begins a mini tirade that includes the ways in which speaking in slang is making Martin Luther King want to spin in a circle and Malcolm X just bitchslapped an angel. The Opposite of Advice | Comment (0)Series of Truths, Part II: Palin and Foreign Policy
Posted by Keanan in US Election 2008.
So I’m at it again. I’m again contemplating how Sarah Palin could possibly be a good, or ready, vice presidential running mate for John McCain.
This time, I turn to her leadership and foreign policy—and how she’s being pampered by McCain and his conservative buddies. For McCain to constantly pursue the notion that Barack Obama is not ready nor prepared to be the President of the United States, and then choose Sarah Palin as his running mate, completely blows my mind. How can anyone in his right mind make BOTH of these statements?

Well, it’s over now… we no longer are rushed, frantic, or constantly panicked. I have not talked to a florist, caterer, hairdresser, or judge in almost a week, and I’m more than happy about it. The last of the leftover desserts are just about polished off and some wedding flowers are still hanging on, although their time is just about up, too.
How did it go, you ask?
It went wonderfully.

alright, I owe you all a blog (or 6) about how the wedding turned out. In short: it was perfect.
Before I get to that, here are some of my pre-wedding day musings.
so here we are, just a few short days away from W-day… in the final stages of the planning. Now, with just about every detail covered, we are already beginning to reap the benefits of the hard work and planning: today was especially rewarding as 4 friends from Tejas flew in, along with my Maid of Honor, who now lives in San Francisco.

This week: John Connor acts a fool on The Sarah Connor Chronicles, the Heroes’ cheerleader gets her brain licked, Audrina and Lo refrain from killing each other on this week’s episode of The Hills, and the Lipstick Jungle ladies prove funerals can be funny.

Dear Meredith,
I recently discovered that one of my co-workers who works right outside my office consistently watches porn during his lunch break. He has NO IDEA I can see his computer screen and mutes the volume, but nonetheless, it’s pretty disturbing. I’m not really sure how I should handle the situation, or if I should even “handle” it at all… help?

Posted by Amanda in US Election 2008.
Contrary to popular belief, I am not an enthusiastic supporter of Barack Obama. Sure, I like his message. I like where he wants to take the country and the mostly positive message he is trying to convey. My gut tells me to trust him, to give him the chance to prove that a new kind of politics can be more effective than the old school partisanship of the last 20 years. Perhaps it’s the cynic in me, but my head tells me it all seems a bit forced, a bit like he has his head in the clouds and he wants us all to join him in his philosophical musings. That said, he is a far better choice than John McCain. On that, my gut and my head agree.
