I believe in Barack Obama

Just a quickie before I head out the door to dance in the streets of DC to celebrate (impending) Obama’s victory.
Today something extraordinary happened in my personal life. For the first time I can recall, my registered-Independent-but-always-vote-Republican grandparents both voted for Obama. A year ago they were very pro-McCain…however, a year ago McCain was a different man than he was now. He stood by his principles and didn’t give in to his party. He had a great bi-partisan immigration plan and was against torture. He wasn’t Captain Angrypants.

During last week’s final debate, in between the massive amounts of blinking and awkward facial ticks, John McCain accused the community organizing group ACORN of being “on the verge of maybe perpetrating one of the greatest frauds in voter history in this country, maybe destroying the fabric of democracy.” This is a pretty serious charge leveled by a man whose own party orchestrated the disenfranchisement of tens of thousands (mostly minority) voters in Florida during the 2000 election through illegal “felon purging”. So how is ACORN stealing our democracy? Purging voter rolls? Using poll watchers to intimidate voters? Not even close.
US Election 2008 | Comment (0)McCain to Obama: Get off my lawn, terrorist

Desperate times call for desperate measures. McCain and Palin see their numbers continuing to slip in the polls, and they know they have to do something. As the economy tanks, voters are throwing their support behind the candidate the feel actually understands just how fucked we are and is going to do something to fix it. Well if talking about the issues isn’t working, what else is there to do? You can’t “suspend” your campaign again, since no one gave a damn the first time around. The popularity of your running mate has declined so much that the “hockey mom” is booed at a hockey game in one of the crucial swing states. With everything working against you, you need to make a move to get back on top, and what better way to do so than call your opponent a terrorist and incite racial fear of “that one”.

She has little knowledge of foreign policy or Supreme Court cases. She bounced between four relatively unknown colleges before finally getting a degree in communications. She enjoys shooting wolves from helicopters. Yes, Sarah Palin is JoAnn Six-pack, your average American who understands what it’s like to be you, to raise a your family and your seventeen-year-old daughter’s family, to be criticized and scrutinized by those out-of-touch elites because you’re an “outsider,” to be regarded with contempt because others just don’t understand that you’re a maverick, doggonit!
