Danny Michel - Feather, Fur, and Fin

Something really odd happened to me the other night… I went to Old Navy and heard a song that didn’t totally blow. Continue reading »

Last night, I officially became a spontaneous shopper. I drove to the store and bought Guitar Hero: World Tour. If being frivolous with your money and buying expensive items without a care in the world is wrong, well, then I don’t want to be right. Continue reading »
Entertainment and Pop Culture, Music | Comment (0)Songs You May Have Missed: Marilyn Manson - “Man that you Fear”
Posted by Lindsay.
Family get-togethers at the holidays usually include at least three cousins asking me, “How did you go from Marilyn Manson to Britney Spears?” or, in reference to the general time period where I caught shit for listening to Manson, “Remember when you used to wear those boots?” Well, the simple answers, my dear family, is that I still listen to Marilyn Manson even with my newfound love for Britney. And my platform boots from Hot Topic broke in 2003, or I’d probably still wear them.

I have this thing where I will get completely obsessed with a song for a period of time, and then it gradually fades, but I always have a special place for it in my heart. Continue reading »

Maybe it’s because I hit my head really hard this morning, but Kanye’s recent release isn’t bad. It isn’t bad at all. Mostly.
Entertainment and Pop Culture, Music | Comment (0)A Cynical Concert Lesson
Posted by Krystal.
The other day, while riding around in my car with my friend Melissa, we heard on the radio that Young Jeezy was coming to town. Melissa got super ecstatic and immediately declared she was going to the show. She started calling friends and asking if they wanted to go and couldn’t wait to get head back home and buy tickets online. She starting making plans for rearranging her work schedule for the day after the concert and figuring out several back up plans just in case she did have to work. The whole time, all I could think was, “All this for Young Jeezy!?!?” Continue reading »
Entertainment and Pop Culture, Music | Comment (1)Karaoke “Behind the Mic”
Posted by Jennifer Dubois.
While most people agree that karaoke started in Kobe, Japan, the origins of karaoke are obscure.
One story claims that a snack bar owner, when a performer failed to appear, put on tapes of
music and asked people if they wanted to sing. Karaoke has since been accepted into common
language usage and has spread through to many different countries. While some have
accepted karaoke as an addiction, some still cringe at the thought. Still, once there and
with a microphone in hand, those who complained the loudest are often the hardest to stop! Continue reading »
Songs You May Have Missed: The Verve Pipe - “Photograph”
Posted by Lindsay.
I am a product of 90s post-grunge, and this is one of my many anthems. Though The Verve Pipe is best known for “The Freshman” also known as the song that makes me want to claw my eyes out because I’m still troubled by how much it was overplayed a decade ago, “Photograph” was their first single off their album Villains. It peaked in Billboard’s Modern Rock Top 10 but obviously didn’t get that played-at-every-middle-school-dance success that “The Freshman” did. Whatever, it rocks way harder.
Music | Comment (1)The Killers, “Day and Age”: Mostly Pretty Good!
Posted by Erin.
In September, I upgraded my automobile from a 1995 Toyota to a 2007 Toyota, and somehow in the process lost the capability to listen to my iPod while driving. Oh, I know, the hardships of the Western World. My point is that I have regressed to listening to the same 4 CDs over and over again for all of time. Their comforting familiarity has given way to getting totally f***ing sick of them.
