Help a family keep their home.
Posted by Jaki in Editors.
I’m a pessimist. I’ve spent my life believing people aren’t willing to help others. For once, I really hope I’m wrong.
You see, my friend Ebony and her husband Daniel have a small problem. Actually they have several small problems that add up to a big problem. Ebony is a stay-at-home mom with her two kids. Things were going along well until Daniel lost his job. Then the car died and without money to get it fixed, they couldn’t go job hunting. And without a job, there is no money to fix the car. With bills piling up and their cars failing, they took out a second mortgage on the house to keep the family moving. Months later, now they’re facing foreclosure. They need the money by December 8th or they have no place to live. “You don’t happen to have $10,000 laying around, do you?” Ebony joked with me.
This bothers me because it shouldn’t happen to them. It shouldn’t be happening with anyone. But it hits me personally because she’s done so much to help so many people. When we went to high school together, her mom passed away and she used the money from that life insurance to buy the house her family is in. It’s sentimental for that reason and I would hate to see them have to leave it now. And god knows we aren’t getting a bailout package. It’s hopeless right? This is where the pessimist in me kicks in and I felt so useless because I want to help. After all, they’re both ministers who scraped together the money they had to help other people and now they don’t have anyone to turn to. Her oldest son is developmentally delayed so they have to pay for his nurse and special schooling. Then, surprise! Ebony found out she was pregnant on top of it all. You’re kidding me, right? It’s impossible. No one can possibility get $10,000 in that short of time. For once, I don’t want to believe the worse in people. Just this one, I’m putting on a happy face. So I said I’d ask around online.
I’ve been calling around to news stations to see if one of them would be interested in doing a human interest story on them. I feel like it wouldn’t take a lot for this to happen but I’m so doubtful. Look, I know you guys aren’t rich. And I don’t ask for this type of stuff often. Hell, I understand if you’re hesitant to help. But if we get 10,000 people to read this post and each one of them donates $1, we can help a family keep them home. I spend so much on things much less worthy and I’m willing to bet a lot of you do as well. Whether you want to call it a miracle or whether you believe in people coming together during the worst of times… whatever you believe, all I’m asking is $1 from each of you. One minute of your time and for you to believe that this can happen. Please prove this pessimist wrong.
10,000 hits. $10,000. Please donate $1.
Help Daniel and Ebony keep their home.
If you can’t afford to help, please link this post around. I’d appreciate any help you can offer. Thanks a lot. If you don’t feel comfortable sending money online, I can provide an address to mail donations. Leave a comment with an email for details.
UPDATE:
I was at work until now so I had to watch in complete shock from my cell phone like some text messaging crazy person because I could barely keep up with the outpouring that my friends have received. I apologize for not answering all the emails and commenting to everyone who has been so amazing in donating to my friends, Ebony and Daniel. I intend to, it’s just been so much. I want to thank Channel 11 - WBAL for taking the time to post their story. In one hour after the broadcast, $1,000 was donated to this family. I think that speak volumes about the power of people and how much we are prepared to care about each other if given an opportunity. But the care shown wasn’t just monetary: people have sent prayers, emails, shared their stories, taken time to write the television stations and shared this link with their friends. It hit so many people close to home because we’ve all been there. Either you’re broke, you have children, have lost your home or come close or are or have been a parent looking for work. It’s so painfully familiar. And it hurts to get invested in each case, so oftentimes we detach in order to keep our sanity. These thousands of foreclosures are just numbers on the news but each one of those numbers represents a home. Each number is a family with a story. We can’t save them all but I thank you all for your part is saving this one. This has truly been a moment that I’m proud to be a part of. I didn’t post their address before but if anyone would like to mail a contribute, you can reach them at:
Daniel and Ebony negotiated with the bank and they have given them to January 1st. And regardless of the outcome, I’m happy to say that I was wrong. But just this once.
UPDATE:
I woke up this morning to find $10,000 in the Paypal account. I can’t believe it. I just can’t believe it. In five days, with everyone’s help, we raised over $10,000! I can’t believe it! I’m on the phone with my friends now and they can’t believe it either. I’ve taken the Paypal button down. My goal was never to make a profit, only to help my friends reach their goal. So, thank you all so very very much for your help and support. I’ll be going to visit Ebony and Daniel tomorrow so they can send their thank out to you all as well. Another update will be forthcoming.
I… I got nothing. I’m speechless. I wanted to post this update to let everyone know but I still need a moment to collect my thoughts about the situation.
Thank you. Just, wow. Thank you so much
UPDATE:
I wanted to give you all an update on Ebony and her family. After WBALTV picked up the story, CNN.com came to interview us.
That was really amazing. As of now, they have the money and they are talking with the bank. I didn’t know that getting a final payoff balance is a long involved process, but the bank is obviously willing to work with them once they heard how they got the money.
Christmas was wonderful. Several local charities found out about the story on the news and they sponsored their family for Christmas. Ebony’s pregnancy is coming along. She’s big as a house and I like to poke her belly to really piss her off. Daniel has at least one interview that I know of but now that they are getting the car fixed, he can continue to apply for jobs.
For everyone that donated, I wanted to say thank you. I apologize for not updating sooner but I was waiting to get the link for the CNN interview to add to the blog. I wanted to show that this was legitmate since there were still some people who doubted it. Things have also been a little crazy this holiday season so I apologize for not getting back to you all sooner. I owe you a huge thank you and so does Ebony.
The following is a message from Ebony to everyone who helped out:
My family and I would like to express our gratitude to all of the caring people that assisted us in raising money for our home. We never thought that God would touch so many hearts just to help us. This was truly a humbling experience that we will remember for years to come. I will never take the the kindness of strangers for granted. In a world that is slowly crumbling economically, you all found it in your hearts to give. So many gave out of their personal need and others sent their warm thoughts and prayers. Every simple gesture manifested into an overwhelming outcome.
As a result of everyone’s generosity, my family and I are able to bring our home out of foreclosure and my husband has gotten two job offers. Another great outcome is that I was able to pay for my training to become a licensed home child care provider. I plan on opening my daycare within the next 6-8 weeks. I am overjoyed and grateful for friends like Jaki, and miracles like all of you that made my only Christmas wish possible. I have a warm home for my children, and finally a chance at financial independence and stability.
Because of the blog, we have also been adopted by different families and local organizations for the holiday, and my children will also have presents for Christmas. As of right now, we are in search of an engine for our 2000 Ford Focus and plan to purchase that with the overflow of money received.
Again, we say thank you, and God Bless.
Sincerely,
Ebony Sampson & the Sampson Family of Aberdeen
Once again, thank you all. I hope you had a happy holiday and a prosperous New Year.

I heard this story on the news and although I feel for this family, I have say that the financial route this family has chosen got them into this mess. Had the parents just taken 30 mins to an hour, sat down and created a written budget and had a fully funded emergency fund or savings account with 3-6 mos worth of expenses BEFORE they bought the house, the cars and the second morgage, they would not be in this boat on Thankgiving. The money that they got from the grandmother or mother passing on (as stated above in their story) should have been put in a savings account NOT used as a down payment for a house and they could have saved up for the down payment then they could have gotten a 15 year fixed morgage and be well on their way to paying off the house that they are in by now had they just waited, if they wanted a house soo bad. Had they put the inheritance money in their emergency fund/savings account, they could have used it to fix the cars that are now broken down(also as stated above in their story). Donations should be directed to putting them Financial Peace University taught by Dave Ramsey not be given directly to them so this financial issue doesn’t arise again. The $10,000.00 will not help them, it’s putting a small band-aid on a huge wound that won’t stop bleeding! They are going to be in the same boat next month and then the next month because there’s no income coming in. If you want to help this family help them better deal with finances. I don’t mean to be mean but it’s the truth.
Please send me a mailing address so that I can send a check.
God bless you and your family. You will receive much more than $10,000. I pray that the right people see your story at the right time, in Jesus’ Name. Amen!
please email the address
Please send me a mailing address so I can send a check.

would like to send money order
I do see Nheiner’s point about the family’s situation for the upcoming months. What WILL they do than ? Is there employment being sought after by Ebony and her husband Daniel or are they relying on unemployment at this time ? There are a few unanswered questions in this heartbreaking story and even though I donated to this family I would still like to know what their backup plans are for January, February,March & Aprils mortgage. Where did the money from the 2nd mortgage go and will we be reading another story from this family in a few short months. As stated above, the family faced foreclosure only a few months after taking out a second mortgage. I have to admit, I will keep this family in my prayer because I want them to get the “Right Help That They Need”, but Nheiner who commented above did make some interesting points that started to make me think about all of this a little more and I found myself reading the story several more times just to see if there was any information that I was missing. Daniel must have some sort of skill to where he can obtain a job quickly enough to have an income. Why did he lose his job ? And what type of work did he do ? I’m sure there are people who are not able to donate money but they may have the connections to help this man or woman obtain a job. I’m interested in hearing what others are feeling about this and I look forward to receiving some sort of reply from the person who oversees this website. I’m sure somebody is checking this page often enough to see just how much money has already been raised in a short period of time.
22 seconds into the interview they show Ebony sitting down with what looks to be 4 boxes of checks behind her left shoulder. I would assume that someone who does not have the proper finances to cover such mortgage payments or car repairs would need that many boxes of checks just laying around. Does that mean they do have money in a account somewhere that they are living off of ? The written story above just doesnt sit well with me !
Please send a mailing address. I would prefer to send cash.
God bless
Dear Ebony and Daniel, I too am touched by your ordeal and would like to help with a donation. I would prefer sending it to you rather than online. I hope you exceed your $10′000 goal so there’ll be something for you to help carry you you while Daniel looks for work, good luck with that too, times are rough, but God IS good. I hope you and your family enjoy the holidays, just remember the true meaning of Chtistmas and let it inspire you. Please email me or post an address where I can send my donation, I’ll be checking my mail daily, but please notice the spelling in my email address. God bless you all. Betsy
Angels come in many forms! Please provide an address for a donation to the cause. I read the commentary by Nheiner and couldn’t agree more. Sometimes we as people only look at the now. Maybe the windfall of cash provided a level of comfort for the family who wanted a better life which all of us want. Now hard times has risen. (The bread winner loss his job,Mom staying at home, two cars broke down, and other expenes adding up.) Even if they catch on the mortgage by December 8th what’s going to happen after that? January 8th is next!looking at the overall picture of wanting to maintain a life style the family should come to reality with themselves. Chaulk up their loss and take the ten thousand dollars and move on.
I agree. The story did not mention anything about them being “under employed” - who wouldn’t at least get a job at McDonald’s or some other place, not much pay but STILL an INcome, maybe enough to fix the car and get a better job from there. If Daniel can’t work, why not Ebony? Sure, I feel badly for anyone in this type of situation, but they did just kind of “ride the tide” here and took too long to react/made poor choices along the way.
please, please email us with an address..we would like to send cash.
please, please send us an address..we would like to help.
I just happened to be watching the news tonight and heard your story. I was touched by it and decided to start a text message that will hopefully generate more cash for your family. I hope my small donation helps!!
We will mail you a check tomorrow. I recently lost my job also, but I know God will be faithful to you & us! But our God shall supply all your needs . . .
I received a text from my sister, Shanda about your story. Shanda tries to help anyone she can, so I decided to be with her on this one. Hope my donation helps.
For those of you questioning the story, or their situation, or the boxes behind them (how do you know those are check boxes, by the way? Or that if they are, they aren’t old boxes being used to hold something else?) - nobody is making you read the story, and nobody is making you donate. If you don’t want to give for whatever reason, then don’t. But lecturing and preaching and judging are not what this family needs right now.
My best to Jaki and to the Sampson family. I’m glad to hear that the bank has given them more time, and I truly hope that they reach the goal far in advance of the new deadline.
To the gentleman who wrote such a critical and judgemental response to the Sampson family situation, I know that this is not the Christian way that I also was taught to follow however I need to speak my mind and pray God forgives me: I pray that you are never in the Sampsons shoes, you nor I know this family nor the thought process they pursued before purchasing this home. And irreguardless of how “prepared” anyone might be financially bad things do happen, and when was the last time you sir tried to save 3 months salary and keeping it while raising 2 children, and needless to say one who is handicapped!! The savings may have been used on nurses or medical bills. THE ONLY WHO CAN JUDGE IS THE LORD, your comment was rude and uncalled for. As for the Sampson family I will be sending a donation via US mail, may God bless you and keep you in his graces. I know that this situation could happen to any one of us at any given time.
Merry “CHRIST”mas to you all!
I live in Pa. but was a former Marylander for 42 yrs. I like to keep in touch with Maryland and so I keep a link of WBAL News to sending me news each day. I read your article and was compelled to help out what I can. I have somewhat of a simuliar situation and felt that GOD would want me to help others! Knowing that when you do, he repays ten-fold. So I hope my donation will help you and your family. May GOD see you through as I know he will with me. Please give your baby a kissy for me and tell her it’s from GOD!
Take Care!!

Within a minute of seeing this I made my donation and I wish peace and blessings to your family - I know you will make your goal - anyone who has had financial problems can relate to this - now is the chance to make a difference for someone - a little bit by each adds up to a lot
I just donated and I want to say… keep up the faith! God is amazing and will bless you 110% if you just believe! It is when we are at our last road and realize we cant do anything else.. and we give everything to him.. that he will bless us beyond what we could ever imagine! My prayers are with your family and I wish the best for you!
At our monthly parish family game night tonight, I told them about your story and the movement to collect $10,000 from 10,000 people $1.00 at a time. The first person to hand me a dollar was an 8 year old boy named Matthew. Everyone else there followed his lead, and I have collected another $12.00 for your cause. I see from the counter that you are over $6,000! I know in my heart you will not only make it, but will pass it!! My own sister has been out of work since May, so I know how hard this is for you. May God bless your whole family, and everyone who has heard your plea and responded.
I heard your story on channel 11 news and would also like to make a contribution to help your family. Please send me your address so that I can send you a check. It might make people feel more comfortable to make donations if an account were set up at a local bank. Then the donations could go directly to the bank. I pray that you receive the donations needed to save your home and make things a little easier for your family in these difficult times. Also, I hope channel 11 will do a follow up story to let everyone know how you are making out.
Please email me your address so i can send you a check
I could only send 5 bucks. hope it helps
I’m happy to see the updates and the amount of money being raised for the cause. I’m also happy that there are more positive supporters on here than the skeptics. We all are doing this out of free will and concern, it’s a bad situation for anyone to be in. Shouldhave, wouldhave, couldhave won’t help the Sampson out of their situation but good help and influences will. If you’re the person that needs a lot of answers up front before you can donate or give some sort of help, then this cause is not for you to participate in.
Sorry I have little sympathy for two adults who do not work six months plus, ride the wave, wait until the house goes into foreclosure, then ask for a handout from others who are also struggling.
Thanks for posting an address. I am donating more than just one dollar. Its crazy because I retired from the local military post there and moved to NC. Every thing was great until I lost my job. It did not take long before I was fighting to keep my newly bought house. I decided to use my savings and pay only my morgage until things get better. I am in need myself, but I can still afford to help. If anybody has faith, JOB had faith. JOB is a book in the Bible. So I wish you all luck and blessings, but if it dont work out, continue to be faithful. I am currently saving my home but may lose my cars, will not have a traditional christmas and dont see the light at the end of the tunnel. You may have to find two jobs that you dont want for a short while, anything.
I thought banks were foregoing foreclosures until after the Holidays?

THIS IS RIDICULOUS. EVERYONE IS IN BAD SHAPE AND THE HOLIDAYS DON’T HELP. I GUESS THERE ARE REALLY SCHMUCKS OUT THERE WHO ARE WILLING TO HELP BEGGARS. IT IS SHAMEFUL AND QUITE NERVY TO HAVE SUCH A STORY ON THE NEWS…HOW IS THIS NEWS ANYWAY? MY MONEY IS ALREADY GOING TO EXTEND PEOPLE’S UNEMPLOYMENT BENEFITS. I’M SURE THIS GUY IS GETTING THAT TOO WHILE FROM HARFORD COUNTY, I DRIVE AND PAY TO PARK IN BALTIMORE TO WORK MY MODESTLY PAYING JOB, PAY FOR DAYCARE AND MANAGED TO TIGHTEN MY BELT TO GO AHEAD AND MAKE IT. STAY AT HOME MOM…MAYBE I COULD STAY AT HOME SINCE NEXT YEAR I’M ALSO IN A PICKLE HAVING NO FAMILY AND NO ONE TO HELP TAKE MY CHILD TO SCHOOL I CAN’T BE IN TWO PLACES AT ONCE THE BUS STOP AND COMMUTING OVER AN HOUR EACH WAY WHOSR GOING TO HELP ME. MAYBE I SHOULD START A FUND TO PAY FOR PRIVATE SCHOOL IN BALTIMORE OR CATHOLIC SCHOOL AND BEFORE AND AFTER CARE….I’LL NEED ABOUT 10,000 A YEAR TOO. AND AFTER ALL THESE IDIOTS BAIL YOU OUT FOR YOUR MORTGAGE FOR THIS YEAR….ARE YOU GOING TO KEEP A “DONATE TO PAY MY BILLS FOR JANUARY…THEN FEBRUARY, ETC.” GIVE ME A BREAK!
I fell asleep with the T.V on last night. Your story woke me up this morning. I was hearing it in my sleep. I opened my eyed and sat up in my bed to hear the remainder on the story and didn’t move until they played it again.I feel your pain as do so many Americans. God bless your family and it will get better. Stay strong. My dollar is on it’s way.

Hope my $2.00 donation helps. I was in your situation once. I know all too well the fear that overwhelms you and makes you feel powerless to do anything. It took me years to get back on track. And to those who would speak unkind words about this family, and who have never walked a mile in their shoes, I say, “Get Over Yourselves”. It’s One Dollar!! If you haven’t the tiniest speck of compassion and your black hearts prevent you from giving one single dollar, then don’t. But if you know a business that is hiring, be kind and post the name and address. If you know a mechanic that would be willing to help get the family’s car fixed, be kind and pass the name along. Surely someone, at sometime in your lives has shown kindness to you. It’s time to pay it forward.
We made a donation of more than a $1.00, may God Bless and keep your family always!
Deb.& Ryan
At $6831 with my $5.00, getting closer to the 10k mark!!!! =]
You should sign up at wishuponahero.com and put your wish on there. There are alot of heros on there that might help you.
In the bible, it says “Weeping my endure for a night BUT joy comes in the morning.” It didn’t mention when morning was coming; however, to the Sampson Family your morning will be here before you know it. I saw your segment on the news and I was touched to give. After reading all of the comments, I to know that All things are possible with GOD, so keep believing in HIS great works because this to shall pass.
And for those people who are analzying their situation with a fine tooth comb, stop and start educating them on how to correct the behaviors that got them in this situation in the first place. If we don’t help and teach them now, we will be made to help, by the govenerment, 10,000+ more families just like the Sampson later but we won’t know their names nor their story.
Finally, this site is to support the Sampson Family and in the process it is spiritually supporting others in these trying times, so I asked that we keep the positive messages flowing for others.
From my family to yours; Merry Christmas! God provides in mysterious ways. I wish you, your family, and your good friend that started this, many blessings and a successful new year!

As a mother of a preemie with developmental delays, I can easily see how a good solid life can get turned upside down quickly. Until you walk a mile in another’s shoes, don’t criticize. I know the $10,000 is just a bandaid, but I hope this news story helps lead your family to job opportunities to help you get back on track. I did notice offers of a possible job…what an even better gift than $10,000! Best wishes.
I am mailing five dollars. I know they will be ok. People are all one and helping others is helping yourself. As John Lennon said “All we need is love, love is all we need.”
leave adress so don. can be sent
I’m a divorced mom, have a child with special needs, and I’m going in for surgery on Wednesday. I have two broken down cars that I limp along and there’s nothing in my house that works quite right. I’m grateful that I have job and that I’ll have all of this to come home to.
I wish that I could send a job to you.
Good luck and God bless.
This couple is asking for $1 from you. I think we can open up our hearts and our pocketbooks/wallet to help them. Please send their address so we can mail our check. Our family is wishing the Sampson’s the very best and hope they can continue the American dream.
Hi Lucy, Like so many others, I, my 15 year old grandson & his buddy would like to contribute to the Sampson’s but are leary about sending credit card info. over the internet. Would you pls. provide a mailind address - Thanks & God Bless!

You two are a blessing to the many people who have responded to your story. May you be blessed many times over what you have done for others.
I just donated - and I can relate as well. My family and I were in your shoes almost 3 months ago. We lost our home. BUt now, with the help of family and friends as well as strangers, we are in another home; so much nicer than where we were before. We are very thankful and blessed; as you will be too. I promised to return the help we received by helping another; and so I did.
Keep the faith, we did, and here we are, doing better!
We will be mailing a donation today, Saturday 11/29/2008. The Bilble says,”Ask, and you shall receive.” God bless you and your family. The Couser’s.
dear friends:
Our beloved God has blessed me with just over a year of life after a June 07 diagnosis of terminal breast cancer. He may not write a check, but I believe God will compel people to help…
you are in my prayers…May He bless you daily…PE
Thanks for providing an address. I am mailing a money order today for $20.00. I hope your optimism grows. I think the Sampson family will realize its dreams before the deadline. You probably should send the mortgage company a copy of the TV 11 news story. Maybe it will soften their hearts a little and they can negotiate a mortgage the family can live with.
God bless and good luck to all!
Would like to send donation. Please provide an address.
Marilyn
I saw your story on the news this morning and I know how tough it can be. Well this your I have been blessed by my business and I am donating $50.00, I hope that this helps your family.
I would love to help out…I plan on collecting some cash from friends and family to make a larger donation than what I would give if it was just myself…could I please have a mailing address to send a check. Good luck!!
Merry Christmas!!! God Bless…I donated $5.00 from my family to yours..Single mom of two boys.
I really would like to help. I do not have much, but I was raised up to believe that every little bit helps. It hurts hearts to see such good people with such giving hearts going through a hard time themselves, and still willing to give of them selves. Please send the address where I can send my donation.
God bless!
When you have God on your side nothing can stand in your way. All you have to do is stand firm in your conviction that God will bring it to past. Your house is not lost and it never was because God has his eye on everything and most of all God loves you. I beleive you are being used as an instructment for the rest of us to take notice of others and give whenever we can to his children in need. HAVE FAITH
God Bless
I think it’s always good when a “community” can come together to help someone that is a blessing to others. I hope that a job opportunity is in the future for this family, as well as hope for their three children. May God truly bless everyone who has taken a moment to donate their money, their prayers, and their time.
Regarding the very cynical remarks about saving money and making plans, many people want to live the “American dream” and can’t, so when they get what they think is the opportunity they take it. And well they should. It must be an incredible burden to live the perfectly planned life you must. One that gives you the right to be so judgemental and critical of others. I hope nothing untoward ever happens to you.
I made a small contribution because these people need help. I cannot afford to judge them, I can afford to give them a little help.
Could you please provide an address and any other information, in order for my Wife and I to send a check? Keep the faith…Roderick & Deanna Seward
GOD BLESS!!!!
I will send a donation. I just want to add that the Northrop Grumman Corp is in a hiring mode. Daniel might want to consider applying there, good company to work for with good benifits.
May God bless you in your time of need. Your friend who came up this this idea is truly a god-send. Please never forget what she has done for you regardless of the outcome. I have taken up a collection from each person in my house and will forward your story to all my friends and family. We were all touched by your story. GOOD LUCK!
Love and Blessings to you…
God is good and I see your address here and i will be mailing you a check today..KEEP YOUR HEAD UP..roslyn.
Thank God i will mail you a check today.
Hello there, I saw your story on wbal tv last night and it really touched my heart. I have spent the last 10 minutes reading everyones posts and all have valid responses. I understand what the person was saying about having money in the bank in case of emergency. But in todays times who actually has that kind of money laying around. My husband and I both have very good jobs with him being and electrician and me being a nurse and we don’t have that in the bank. I also understand that they both need to get a job even if it is at McDonalds to bring in some type of cash/income at this point. But at this time of the year should we be judging? Isn’t this the time of the year for giving? I do believe it is and no person should judge another, we shouldn’t throw stones at glass houses and I’m sure if we all look under our own “rugs” their is dirt there that needs sweeping. Good luck and I am giving a dollar for all 4 people in my family plus a dollar for the 3 animals in my house plus 3 to make it an even 10.00
god has been good to my family so we would like to help someone else we will be donated 2.00 per family member which will be 10.00.may god bless you and your family.
Im sending you a donation. I’m blessed to have and I thank God, my parents and everyone who made me the person I am. We do not live in this world alone, we are all family and its good to see so many people that feel the same. We can get through these trying times, I KNOW WE CAN.
I will pass the word via My Space! Thank you for this!
God bless you…
I have made a donation of $20.00 and have printed out a copy of this so it can be sent to a coworkers chruch. I have forawded emails to other co workers as well. I have faith you will have more than enough money to pay the mortage company.
May God Bless You and your family.
From a recovering pessimist, I donated an amount to help you hit your goal. Our God is an Awesome God and we must never underestimate the power or prayer! We’re having our own financial difficulties, but I gave in accordance with God’s word. If you pray for help, it will arrive! May God Bless you!
God Bless always!
What is the address to send donation.
I live right here in Aberdeen and I’ll tell you that unless you have a reliable car, getting to McDonald’s isn’t always possible, so that comment was totally unnecessary. And as far as saving up 3-6 months income–that’s not always possible either, especially with children and one who’s disabled. Things happen, and you can’t always plan them or prepare for them. But God is able to “supply all our needs according to His riches in Glory through Christ Jesus.”, which is why He’s enabled most of us to give in order to help someone else in need. I’m sorry you took down the Paypal link, but, no worries, I’ll be sending a check even though the ‘goal’ has been reached (I’m sure it can be used somehow, especially now at Christmas). Be encouraged for if you’re a born-again believer then you know that “God will never see the righteous forsaken or their seed begging bread”. To God be the Glory…
To the Sampson Family,
Please email me your mailing address. I would like to send you a donation but I do not want to use my credit card on line.
Thak You,
Mr and Mrs, Louis Dailey

I can’t believe this crap!! Only God knows how many good Christians are in this same situation, and many of them were smart enough to STOP HAVING KIDS THEY CAN’T AFFORD! I cannot express how angry this makes me! I have a ton of bills, my wife has a lifethreatening disease and she is less than 30 years old, and we CAN’T have kids now because of the medicines she takes. I work my fingers to the bone doing anything I can…You WON’T hear…”I can’t find a job in this economy” come from my lips, I FIND something to do. Why don’t you people make a REAL difference and collect $ for EVERYONE not just a family here & there! LOSERS! And now you can bet the extra $ will no doubt buy rims for a car, or a video game system instead of going into savings.
Please contact me so that I may make a contribution to your need. 410-287-2133
I saw the Sampson’s story today on WBAL. I am so thankful that my husband and I still have our jobs. This economy sucks and many people I personally know have lost there jobs. Living today in this world means living each day to the fullest since life can be short. As to some of the negative messages, - I don’t have 3 months expenses in the bank and many people don’t. DON’T judge people…you have no idea what the circumstances are that brought them to this point. I don’t know the Sampsons but I do know that they did not just buy this house nor did they just get the second mortgage. I am mailing my check out on Monday and I will also pass this email around. Please also email what Mr. Sampsons qualifications are so I can also see if I know anyone hiring….emails and word of mouth can help spread the word. Good Luck
This is such a heartfelt thing that has happened to this family, Look how everyone has just given. Why can’t we as a community try and save others as well. So many good people are in bad shape. Without pointing fingers at wht why an wheres did they go wrong just everyone try and help. If you are waiting for our government to step in you have a long wait.We as people need to stick together. One family at a time.
I hope this man gets a job doing anything to get the cash flowing some way.Any job will do. I have had to do jobs in my life that I wasn’t really qualified for but I learned how very qickly. When you have mouths to feed you learn quick.Good luck to this family and all the others out there
I would like to donate $20.00 please e-mail address
I am very upset right now because from the moment that I saw this story broadcast on WBAL-11; I imediately went online to find the link so that I could donate. It was no where to be found at that time, so I figured I would come back and donate later. Well I am online and ready to donate; and low and behold, they have reached their goal already and I was unable to ba a part of helping this family. I really wanted to help THIS family. I don’t know why…I just did. I don’t have much to give myself…could be doing much better than I am…but I am still surviving and I wanted to be a blessing to them. I know what it’s like to lose your job unexpectedly and have no one to turn to. I also know what it’s like to receive a blessing from an unexpected source.
My prayers go out to this family for them to be able to maintain now that they have the money to save their house.
God Bless You and know that there are not just good people in this world but GREAT people. Keep your faith always!!!
Jacqueline Hanna
I would love to mail your family a donation. If you would forward me your address I’ll get that right out. God bless you all.
Can you send me an address to mail my donations to you. Thank you.
You can contact me at 443-520-5793.
What an AWESOME God we Serve! I just logged onto the site and I see the goal has been reached. I hope WBAL does a follow-up story. I still plan on sending a donation to the address posted. The Spirit of Giving is alive and well! God Bless the Sampson Family!
Dear Sampson Family,
First of all, God Bless you. I saw your story on Channel 11 and I wanted to send you something. Please provide your address to me. Please keep believing that God will provide for you in your time of trials. In Jesus’s name.
So happy to see you made the 10k mark!!!!
I need to know where to send this family my donation. Just remember that when pointing a finger at someone you have four pointing at yourself.
I know someone on here can help you get a used car and a job again, someone here has a hook up. speak up yall!!!!! We dont want to see this happen again.. This should be the next step..
Good afternoon. I was touched by your story on the news and believe that my family and friends would help me if I was in a time of need. I am a firm believe in if you have it - pay it forward and Karma will pay you back later. I made a $25 donation this morning and forwarded your story to my girl’s group. I hope you reach your goal!
I am sorry to hear about to this situation and will be sending my donation as well. I does my heart good to see the outpouring of care and concern for people that are in need. The Lord said ask and you shall receive and that is just what this family has done. God is Awesome! I think it took a lot of courage for this family to share their personal business with perfect strangers. I’m certain that I wouldn’t have been as courageous. To the few skeptics who voiced such harsh opinions I hope you never find yourselves in such a situation. I know in my heart that this family would do whatever they could to reciprocate the generosity to you. Even while they are going through this situation they are still trying to be a blessing to others by giving of their time on Thanksgiving. Read the article thoroughly, the wife is a stay at home mom just as so many other wives and mothers are. They were doing fine and the husband lost his job. Have you not been watching the news lately and seeing how thousands of people are losing their jobs everyday. It happens! I wish this family well and I will continue to keep you in my prayers.
Such a touching story. I too would love to donate. Please provide an address or PO Box where donations can be sent.
God Bless you.
First off, I would like to say GOD BLESS The Sampson Family. I am so happy that you reached your goal and I am happy that your going to be able to keep your home. Secondly, all of you people that are placing negative remarks on here, you should be assamed of yourself. What gives your the right to judge this family? This is a family that was trying and they got behind. It happens. Especially in today’s economy. This family tried with what they had and they go behind. I am having a hard time taking care of my family and I have a good job. We have no right to sit here and spit out shoulda, woulda, coulda to this family. A friend of theirs came to this site and asked for help for them. If you did not want to give best wishes to this family, you should not have come.I pray that God continues to bless this family and keep them safe. I am happy that you reached your goal and I hope that everything works out for you.
God bless you.
Aiin’t GOD good!!! I stumbled upon this story while on WBAL’s website. It touched me so much to think that any of us could be in this couple’s shoes. Not only would I like to donate, I would like to send a gift card to assist with purchasing items for the family to enjoy their holiday in their home. Please send me a mailing address.
Please send me an address where we can send you a donation. My husband and I give donations especially this time of year, and it would be great to help a family so close to home. Our prayers are with you to raise enough to save your house, fix your car and for Santa to find his way to your house for your little ones. We wish you all a blessed holiday and good fortune in the new year.
Could I please have their address in Aberdeen as I would like to help the family.
God Bless
Me & Mrs J Ferrara
Always stay within your budget. Keep your main bills paid.
Continue to look for a job, it might not be you want at this
time, but it will help. With the way the economoy is moving, it’s better to have a job. And most of all, when you recieve the money that you need, use it for what you say that it is for,
always be honest, that will get you farther than, using the money unwisely, and not being able to get help again.
And I do think you have enough children, you don’t to make things to hard for yourselves by continually having children.
There’s alot of hard work providing for children. I will keep you in my prayers, and I will send a donation, because no one should lose their home, it’s nothing like having something of your own. GOD BLESS YOU!
I’ve been coming to this website a few times a day to see how much has been raised. Last night, I saw that over $6,000 had been raised so far and was amazed to come home from work this evening and see that their goal of $10,000 was made! I am amazed that it took less than a week to raise that much money. I’m so happy for Ebony, Daniel, and their kids, and that they can keep their house. Especially at a time like this during the holidays and since it’s freezing outside!
You guys got an early Christmas miracle =]
I am sure that with the struggles this family is enduring, $10,000 will not go too far. I believe that word is getting out, as my dad just passed it along to me. If you will kindly post the address again, people are still willing to reach out.
I heard your story on tv this morning. Please provide me the mailing address so i can send some money directly too you!
I am so happy you reached your goal.I came to this site from the Wbal website hoping to make a donation but I found it wasn’t needed. Maybe even enough to go towards fixing that car too? I hope you and your friends have a wonderful new year and that these donations help get the family back on track. Our GOD is an Awsome GOD!
Peace!
The Alley’s
We saw your story today and our prayers goes out to your family. We also would like to donate to your family. Please email your mailing address so we can send money directly to you.
I came here to donate and was so glad to see that the goal has been met. Thank God!
To all of you bitter people who feel the need to come here and make negative comments, why waste your time? Yes, there are people who are hurting everywhere. If everyone took the time and donated the little money they had to help others, maybe this country wouldn’t be in such a sad state. Violence, a crumbling economy, coupled with anger and bitterness. Yes, life sucks sometimes. Hard times happen to good people. My husband lost his job last year and we had to apply to the county and the state for help. We have no disabled children and fortuntely, our cars are not in disrepair. My husband took a pay cut and I increased my hours. I could spend every day complaining about how unfair life is, but I choose to use what little resources we have to help others.
I really cannot believe the cynicism here. Honestly, it is not our place to judge others and whether you believe in God or in karma, eventually good comes back to you if you put it out there. If you put out hate and anger, that is what you will receive.
I am sorry to hear about your misfortune. I am sending a check in the mail for $10.00. I am sure that you will be okay. Hang in there. Merry Christmas.
Mr Sampson, I encourage you to apply at the Aberdeen Home Depot. We are always looking for good people and training is provided. Best of all, we are on the route of the town go round bus. I work there and you are more than welcome to look me up if in the store. We have a lot of good people that work there, so I am sure if hired, you would make a great addition! Hope to see your application!
HERE IS THE ADDRESS:

GOD BLESS EVERYONE
I saw your story on TV this morning. I just pulled up your website to make a donation and was glad to see that you and your family will be in your home for the Holidays and beyond. I will place my donation in the mail; Our God is an awesome God.
I lost my home in 2007 but God is good and I am doing okay now. I would like to assist in any way to help another family if I can. I can’t express how awful it is to lose your home. Please provide an address or email link for assistance. I will keep the family in my prayers.
I want to say my prayer goes out to this family. I just saw the posting on MSN and was looking to donate when I saw that the goal had been reached. I will keep the family in my prayers and I pray that every thing will work out for this family as well as all the rest of the families that are going through troubling times. With dedication, determination and dependability, you will get through this. Just keep GOD first and continue no matter what struggles come you way.
I am astonished at the hostility of some responders.
How sad they are so closed to the goodness of others. I will pray for them, too.
I donated $30 this morning and came back to check if they had made their goal. I was so happy to see that they have indeed made their goal!
I was a little disturbed to see some of the nasty comments on the page. I’m a single mother who was also laid off a little less than a year ago. I was out of work for 3 ½ months struggling to survive on unemployment in an economy where good jobs are hard to come by. I am more than familiar with the struggles the Sampsons are facing. I also received financial support from my family, church and close friends. I’m not sure what I would have done without them.
For the people on here that want to preach their financial advice, I just have to say, not everyone lives a charmed life. In the 14 years that I have been a single mother, I have NEVER had 3-6 months worth of salary in a savings account. Also, since you are unaware of how unemployment works, the system actually discourages you from working a “fast-food” type job. I believe I could not make more than $50 a week, or my unemployment would have stopped, and unemployment pays more than working full-time at McDonalds. You do the math. What would you do?
Enough of the negativity though. I’m so happy for the Sampsons and glad that we could show their pessimist friend that there are still many good and caring people in this world!
I heard you story today on WBAL TV and I would like to help you so please send me an address or P.O. Box to where I can send the money. P.S. continue to trust in God because blessing come from heaven. Also,I hope all is well.
Concern Person,
Deborah M. Johnson
I sent my donation via pay pal only for the 2 kids to have a home to live in. I feel bad for the kids during the holidays. As far as the parents….please redeem yourselves. You are role models for your children. The community has bailed you out this time (Probably will get $15,000-$20,000). BE SMART WITH IT. Now you BOTH have to get JOBS (possibly multiple jobs) to get ahead in life and get out of this hole. Im single with 2 small children, work 2 jobs and I know how hard life can be. Good Luck!!! And remember…this problem will only come back if you dont get get your lives in order.
I know you will be in your home for Christmas, because God is good.I hope this donation will help. Will mail it today.
So happy you met your goal, and then some! I hope Ebony and her family have a good Christmas after all.
Please send me your mailing address and payable to whom for donation my email is hail2dr@hotmail.com
My family and I would really like to help with a donation. Would you please send mailing address so that the donation will reach before the deadline. Peace and Christ be with you.
I just opened up my email after several days. I am glad to hear that the family was able to reach their goal of $10,000. I would like to donate even though the goal has been met. I need a mailing address. thanks. God Bless.
