A Borders Black Hole Adventure
Posted by Krystal in Book Blog Entertainment and Pop Culture.
As I have previously mentioned, I really think giving books is a great idea when it comes to gifts. So, late last week, my boyfriend and I went to our local Borders to get some severely last minute gifts. It was after this fateful day, that we have come to the conclusion that Borders is a black hole.
Our original plan was to just walk in and go straight to the Children section for a gift for our niece. Along the way we found ourselves in the History section, the Literature Section, and the Religion section. In the main aisle, there were several little tables filled with books and signs like “Great Gifts For Under $20.” Oh man. By the time we reached the our actual destination inside Borders, we found ourselves with several books intended only for ourselves and it was now dark outside.
We quickly re-focused and got the books needed for Christmas and strategized over what we should do with our plethora of books. It is Christmas time. We shouldn’t be buying things for ourselves. Buuuuut, no one else is going to buy Nick Muhammad: A Prophet For Our Time! Plus, I really need to buy The Pessimist’s Guide to History.
After several moments of thoughtful consideration, we decided that I would only get my book of choice (WIN!) and the Christmas gifts. We were just at Borders not too long ago and Nick bought The Hitchhiker’s Guide To The Galaxy. It was my turn to get a book.
After we escaped Borders, Nick and I felt Borders Book Buying Guilt. I felt bad that only I got a book (and I didn’t get my other choices) and he felt non-buyers remorse. We shared our disgruntled situation with our friends Rob and Melissa over several games of Mortal Kombat Vs. DC Universe and somehow our plight convinced Mel to go to Borders to shop for her nephews. We decided to be great friends and escorted her there.
Long story short, we left with two more books and candy. Ugh. We have officially decided that we are not going back there until the new year. We just cannot afford it. Seriously, Borders is like a black hole. We get sucked in there and lose all track of time.
Wait. the new year is just next week, right? Hmmm…I did get a bunch of coupons…..
