Mirrors- Kiefer Sutherland plays disgraced ex cop Ben Carson forced to take a job as a night watchman at a fire ravaged department store. Soon enough Ben starts seeing things in the mirrors both in the store and at home. He’s also dealing with an estranged wife, kids and alcohol dependency. Why can’t things be easy for Jack Bauer….. why!?!?! French director Alexandre Aja follows up his remake of The Hills Have Eyes with a star vehicle for Kiefer and while it’s not bad it certainly isn’t his best. So far all Aja’s done in the U.S. is remake old school horror and I’ll give him one more chance before I officially give up on him.
Appaloosa- Lawman Virgil Cole (Ed Harris) and his deputy Everett Hitch (Viggo Mortensen) are hired to defend an 1880’s town from a murderous rancher (Jeremy Irons). Complicating things is the arrival of widower (Renee Zellwegger). Ed Harris directs this adaptation of the Robert B. Parker novel.
Vicky Christina Barcelona- Two Americans (Scarlett Johansson & Rebecca Hall) spend a summer in Spain with a couple (Javier Bardem & Penelope Cruz) and become enamored with the husband. Woody Allen directs. I haven’t liked a Woody Allen movie since Sleeper. I even hate Annie Hall. OMG!!!
My Best Friend’s Girl- Jason Biggs girlfriend dumps him so he hires Dane Cook to treat her like poop in hopes that she will come running back to him. The twist is that she actually wants someone the total opposite of the good boy she just dumped. Complications and hilarity ensue. Hey, did you know that Jason Biggs was an up and comer after the American Pie movies, Kate Hudson won an Oscar and Dane Cook was funny….I think. How long before Kate’s in a sitcom?
