Let’s All Go to the Lobby: New Movie(s) in Theaters 1/2

One Oscar contender gets it’s wide release this week.
Sam Mendes (American Beauty & Road to Perdition) direct Leonardo DiCaprio and Kate Winslet in this adaptation of the 1961 Richard Yates novel about married life in 1950’s suburbia. April and Frank Wheeler are a young married couple living in Connecticut, raising their kids and generally hating everything about their life and their prospects for the future. Kathy Bates co-stars as the requisite nosy neighbor. For anyone expecting a Titanic-like coupling I implore you to not think it’s happening here. This had a limited release the day after Christmas in order be eligible for Oscar consideration.
Check back on Friday for my review of this Golden Globe nominated and Oscar contender.
