Revolver (2005)

Now contrary to what the poster indicates, this is not Guy Ritchie at his best, nor is it brilliant. It is by no means the worst movie he’s put his name on (SWEPT AWAY, anyone?) but I consider this a definite miss.
Jake Green (Jason Statham) has spent the last 7 years in solitary confinement and when released his sole plan is to get revenge on Dorothy Macha (Ray Liotta). Jake is enlisted by two bookies (Andre 3000 and Vincent Pastore) that can protect him from Dorothy in exchange for all the money he’s made since his release two years ago. I am honestly not sure why he needed their protection but OK, I’ll roll with it. This movie is way too complex when it has absolutely no reason to be. Jake wants revenge on Dorothy but apparently Jake’s got some sort of illness so he’s fighting that along with various people’s split personalities and his dead brother’s kid needs protecting. Twists and turns abound as nobody’s allegiances are quite what they seem to be.
The most memorable thing I can say about this film is that Ray Liotta’s character appears in a speedo A LOT and Jason Stratham has long hair and a mustache. Wow, now that I think about it maybe this is actually worse than SWEPT AWAY. At least that had some nice desert island scenery. No wonder it took REVOLVER two years to find a U.S. distributor…
Let’s forget this ever happened.
