WTF, Limited Releases!?!
Posted by Krystal in Entertainment and Pop Culture Movies.
I was all set for a fantastic movie viewing weekend. I had so many films to choose from. Perhaps I could see Frost/Nixon or Doubt. They both have received rave reviews and critical acclaim. I think they both are shoo-ins for several Oscar Nominations. I find both of the films really intriguing and I think I would enjoy them immensely. So, I planned a nice night with my boyfriend, a bucket of popcorn and Buncha Crunch!
However, when I looked up movie times for my fantastic local theatre, I was distressed to find none of the films where showing. At first, a wave of anger washed over me. C’mon, Emagine Canton! Thirteen showings of Twilight in two different theatres? Australia? Apparently, I have to be an eighth grade girl to enjoy a film these days.
Then, I remembered about how it is this time of year again: limited releases. In order to qualify for Oscar consideration, you have to have the film released before the end of the year. A film can technically make the cut by doing a limited release, which is basically releasing the film in a limited number of cities before releasing it nationwide (or worldwide). Some centuries ago, it became a “super awesome” trend to do the limited release trick for your major Oscar hopeful.
Now, once again, I am becoming a victim to the limited release. Oh, cruel fate! What will I watch now? It is okay, I will just have to figure out a back up plan until Christmas when Frost/Nixon and The Curious Case of Benjamin Button come out. I will not sacrifice an hour and half to Twilight.

I AM SO SORRY!!!! I can’t believe they weren’t showing it anywhere nearby. That’s just ridiculous. No indie theaters within an hour’s drive? What is this, Russia?!?!
