Musical Observations With Krystal

Here are some random music-filled tidbits that have struck my eye this past week!
*The Fat Donna is now fatter than ever!
The other day, a close personal friend told me that she was watching I Love The New Millennium on VH1 and saw that the fat Donna from the all-girl group The Donna is somehow even fatter than usual. I decided to investigate this more thoroughly. Turns out the fat Donna is actually named Maya and she plays bass for the band. Here are some photographical evidence! As you can see here in this picture, there is no fat Donnas anywhere to be found! But if you take a glance at these pictures, well, it is easy to see who indeed is the fat Donna.
*Musical Merger From Hell
I read earlier last week that Zooey Deschanel and the lead singer of Death Cab For Cutie, Ben Gibbard, are officially engaged. The potential spawn from this marriage will, without a doubt, be the Anti-Christ! Oh boy. But seriously, congrats on the engagement. Just do not sing a duet anytime soon. Please?
*New Year’s Day Is A Good Day For Lists
I spent all day (and majority of the evening) Thursday watching three shows: Notorized: Top 100 Videos of 2008 on BET, 100 Greatest Hard Rock Songs on VH1 and Top 50 Videos of 2008 on GAC. The viewing was not that successful. I tuned into GAC to bother my fiance with awful country music and their even worse stereotypical music videos. The viewing only lasted a few moments because Toby Keith came on. The music video was “God Love Her” and Nick started shouting. Hilarious, but like I said, viewing was short-lived.
So I spent most of my time flipping between BET and VH1. To be honest, I really do not know which countdown was worst. I did see some really awful videos/songs on both countdowns. Most of the groans for the 100 Greatest Hard Rock Songs came from the inaccuracy of the list. Poison? Velvet Revolver? Night Ranger? LITA FORD?!!? *SIGH* I don’t want to talk about this anymore…
The only complaint about the BET countdown was that at the beginning of the list, the videos and songs were poorly produced. As the countdown digressed, the songs and videos got a lot better. It is obvious that the later songs in the countdown had more money and record-company backing. But, hey isn’t that what a countdown should be? The videos/songs get better as the countdown continues? I guess the countdown was a success then. It was just irksome to us because we are not rap/hip-hop fans. Lil Wayne topped the countdown and he was in the top 10 three times! That has to be some kind of record. Maybe Lil Wayne is on his way to multiple Grammy wins…
