What’s more novel: Chinese Democracy or free Dr. Pepper?

If you would have told me 7 or 8 years ago that Guns N’ Roses were coming out with a new album, I probably would have been stoked, or at least morbidly curious, but considering the ridiculous shenanigans the band (namely, lead singer, Axl Rose) has pulled in recent years, I’ve been less inclined to care much about the band, or their no-way-it-can-be-good-with-how-long-its-taken-to-release-album, Chinese Democracy.
However, though my interest in 80s hair bands and rock star drama may wane, my love for all things free burns on like an eternal flame. So when Dr. Pepper announced it would be giving out coupons to celebrate the fact this shit bomb is finally dropping, I had to admit, I was excited and impressed. First of all, it’s nice to see that a large company is living up to a promise that I’m sure it never expected to have to deliver on. Secondly, at least fans can get some sort of retribution for their years waiting for the band to get their shit together.
I will not be purchasing this album; chances are unlikely I’ll even bother to pirate it illegally. But one thing is for certain: I will excitedly plug in my information to receive my free soda, and sometime between 2 weeks from now and February 28th, I will raise my bottle to Axl and co. to finally putting the final (and long overdue) nail in their career’s coffin.
