This week: Gossip Girl blew minds and became Emmy-worthy…or at the very least Ed Westwick did.
***
Show: Gossip Girl
Episode: “Oh, Brother, Where Bart Thou?” (2×13)
You Can Watch It: Mondays at 8pm on the CW (new episodes return January 5, 2009)
So, that whole accident thing that was going on with Bart at the end of the last episode, well, it didn’t go so well for Bart. He’s dead. A shocked Lily and her forlorn children accompanied by their scheming grandmother made their way to a church for the funeral. Chuck, who had successfully downed enough vodka to put himself in a right drunken rage, had it out with Lily on the church steps. Blair and Nate attempted to calm Chuck down, but he wasn’t having any of it. He went to his father’s private detective to learn the truth about Lily after leaving Bart’s wake and having Blair chase him down the street to tell him that she loves him (finally!). Lily did not want the truth to be known, and she asked her mommy dearest to purchase the information from the PI in order to save her reputation. Mommy lied to her saying that she had bribed the detective, but really she ran off behind her back to tell Rufus that Lily had aborted a child they had conceived together when they were younger before running off to be institutionalized in France. Chuck confronted Lily and accused her of killing his father. Lily reacted far more rationally than humanly possible (she probably deserves a Nobel Peace Prize for that) and something in Chuck turned. He burned the documentation of Lily’s past indiscretions and basically had a breakdown in Blair’s arms in her bedroom. They spooned and Chuck took off before the morning. Lily and Rufus’s plans to go away for the weekend were ruined when Rufus became so quietly enraged (a betrayed “oh to think of what could have been!” rage) that all he could do was ask Lily if it was a boy or a girl before abandoning her in the middle of the train station. Also, Dan and Serena flirted to the max in front of greasy Aaron, which threatened Aaron’s tiny sliver of manhood so much that he invited Serena to South America for the holidays. Dan tried to tell her not to go, but it was too little too late as the wise JoJo once said. Finally, Seldon was so touched by Bart’s passing that he asked Eleanor to marry him right away so they wouldn’t have to spend anymore days not being married to each other. It was a beautiful ceremony and Little J got to design Eleanor’s wedding suit! You go, Little J!
Conclusions:
No Vanessa. That’s a plus for me! Also, honestly, with all of my heart, I believe that this episode is Emmy-worthy and that Ed Westwick deserves an Emmy for his performance hands down. No arguments.

I am *STILL* crying for Chuck. I have not had so much snot running down my face since Pratt died. In fact, this might have been worse because every scene with Chuck showed him falling apart more and more. If people didn’t think Ed Westwick’s acting was amazing before, this episode should change their minds forever.
