forever and ever, amen.

Well, it’s over now… we no longer are rushed, frantic, or constantly panicked. I have not talked to a florist, caterer, hairdresser, or judge in almost a week, and I’m more than happy about it. The last of the leftover desserts are just about polished off and some wedding flowers are still hanging on, although their time is just about up, too.
How did it go, you ask?
It went wonderfully.
This isn’t to say there weren’t hiccups. The venue forgot to turn the mike on for the ceremony, so the first reading and 2/3 of the next one were inaudible to our guests in the back rows. As we were exchanging vows, some ghetto thumping truck went by, blaring its bass. Two of the people in the kitchen got hurt so our food service was slower than expected during the reception, I forgot to make a place card for one couple which then threw off 3 tables. The DJ started playing the song that my father and I were supposed to dance to for D and his mom, and then stopped the music and started it over again when he realized his mistake.
But then again, there were a lot of wonderful things that happened, too. Like the weather being the most perfect weather of all the weekends in September, the fact that the ceremony musicians learned the theme from Eternal Sunshine so I could walk out to a song from the movie D and I saw together during our first official date, and then they learned another song from the movie that we could use as our recessional music. South Philly Joe got my pincurls PERFECT and I had hair like a 40s movie star. My brother made AWESOME programs and my aunt took AWESOME wedding photos. the food at the reception was AMAZING, and we got tons of compliments from people saying it was the best they had.
Our first dance, the Uma Thurman/John Travolta scene from Pulp Fiction, was a HUGE hit, and my maid of honor and D’s best man gave wonderful toasts. The DJ played sooo many songs we wanted to hear and everyone danced! The reception got extended by an hour and a half and we had the most awesome custom-made wedding cake EVER. We had chocolate and regular and custard-filled beignets, and my father and his friend decorated the food stations with fresh veggies from our and his farm (another thing that people LOVED, which turned into makeshift favors for several happy guests!!).
It was so nice to see how receptive people were to all the details of our day: they noticed D’s fleur-de-lis high tops (D’s family is originally from Louisiana, so we used the fleur-de-lis EVERYWHERE :)), they loved my hair, they loved the veggies my dad brought, they loved the soil mixing ceremony we did in lieu of the traditional unity candle (to commemorate the blending of our families, our backgrounds, the places we grew up, and the farm that has been in my family for 4 generations…), they loved our readings (excerpt from the Velveteen Rabbit, a Dave Sedaris piece, a Robert Louis Stevenson poem, and a Seamus Heaney poem), and they loved the food!!
The venue even loved all the things we did! We had one of the caterers tell us we had the best first dance he’s seen; the head of the event planning gave us a case of champagne to take home and told us to come back and visit. We’ve been getting emails from guests, friends, and family all week telling us how much they really enjoyed our wedding.
Even D admitted that the day was worth all the insanity and stress leading us to it
So it looks like my wedding adventures are now over, but I will still be blogging about some of the sites, info, and insight I’ve gained from all the craziness leading up to and after the wedding.
Until then, happy planning!!!
