so, not only did I realize the importance of my bridal-day makeup, I also did not realize the complete necessity of it, at least in the terms of most people’s definition of wedding necessity.
I mentioned to a few people that I wasn’t sure if I was going to do my make up myself or have someone else do it, and even the most laid back people got this serious look, and then, with a look of complete concern, told me I should get on that.
Well, better late than never, right?
It’s funny how you have no idea that you should care, let alone worry, about something until you’re told that you should be caring and worrying about it, and then suddenly you (or at least, I) get into full panic this-must-be-done-RIGHT-NOW mode. During my lunch break at work, I started calling around to some make up people in the area and emailing some leads I got online. Slightly convinced that I would not find anyone so close to the wedding date (esp. since our wedding is on a Sunday and most salons aren’t open Sunday), I went in assuming the worst. And once I heard a few “sorry not available”s, I figured I would be doomed to walk down the aisle without the “proper” make up, (even though I generally don’t wear any make up anyway, so how bad could it be?)
Thankfully though, I remembered a woman from my hometown who is considered to be one of the best people in the area for wedding/special occasion make up and figured I’d give her a try. The whole getting married on a Sunday thing actually worked in my favor, since she was booked practically every Saturday but would be able to work something out for that Sunday (a useful tip for those ladies trying to figure out which day to get married… although some things–like finding salons that are open–may be more difficult, I’ve had SO much luck with vendors and last-minute bookings because we’re on an “off” day!!).
So today, I’m driving down to my hometown to meet with the woman to do a test run before W-day to see how it all looks. I have to admit, I’m pretty curious and a little excited, too. Like I said, I don’t generally wear make up much (In fact, I can’t remember the last time I put on make up… maybe my wedding shower in July?), so it’ll be exciting to see how different I might look with it professionally done.
I’m also curious because I’m going to be getting airbrushed make up, which also is going to be something completely new to me. This shit is supposed to last 14 hours, which I find incredible, esp. since most of the make up I use now when I do wear it is mineral based, so it seems like it either comes off easily, or just wears naturally over time. Maybe if I’m feeling bold, I’ll post some “before” and “after” shots of myself…
We’re taking advantage of my dolled-up look by going and getting pictures with our wedding photographer (who happens to be my aunt– www.lwphotos.com) afterwards to get pseudo-engagement photos/take pictures for the signing board and for a few other wedding PR things
This will be the first time that we’ve ever officially gotten our picture together, which should be interesting, esp. D is not a big “smile and pose” kind of guy
Then again, HE is the one who suggested that we get some professional shots taken before the wedding (see, that saucy Cajun has a sentimental side…) We’ve always talked about buying ridiculous matching outfits and going to the Sears portrait studio to get some really horrible monstrosity that we could blow up and display proudly in the living room, but we just never did it.
Perhaps that can be a goal for our anniversary…
