Liberals Always Win.
Posted by Kate G. in US Election 2008.
I’m not even going to mention the debate last night, as it was merely Old Man River lying and Obama having to correct him. Not much new or interesting was said…except for the “That one!” comment, which is exactly what McCain and Voldemort needed to pull their campaign out of the toilet. Their new slogan should be “dig, baby, dig.”
In an effort to raise our spirits, let’s chat about why, in the end, liberals will always win.
Yes, that’s right. It may seem ludicrous to say, after eight years of Dum-Dum-Dubya, but I swear it’s true. Let me explain.
When conservatives talk about their views and values and laws they want to pass, they don’t deal with reality–at least, not any reality with which the vast majority of us is familiar. They ignore the actuality of most subjects; they speak as if no poverty exists, no diversity, no variance in religion in the 330 million people in the U.S.
And they call us idealists?
From this warped “idealism” comes the birth of ridiculous laws that have no “legs,” that last only as long as the Congress that passed them. Why? Eventually, even the rich, white “values” of our upper-class bump right up against that ghastly thing they dread: reality.
When reality strikes and something must be done, that’s where we liberals come in. Through the years, we’ve slowly, yet steadily cleaned up after every silly assumption a conservative has made. We’ve changed the Constitution to reflect the reality of racial diversity and gender equality. We’ve created social programs to help the poor, who have been blamed in the past for their misfortune. We’ve faced the reality that, yes, everyone has sex and should be given the tools necessary to protect themselves and make decisions.
So I’m not so worried about same-sex marriage, health care, or education; I know, in time, reality will sink in. Lawmakers will have to come to grips with the fact that families are as different as snowflakes, but they all have love in common. It will dawn on them that it’s just silly that the richest country in the world can’t give all of its citizens health insurance. One day, the people who make decisions for us will realize how disadvantaged our students are compared to those in Europe and India.
Change will come, as it always does. Reality will replace myopic ideals. We’ll win these battles as we always have: not with flimsy, feeble laws but with Constitutional amendments, ratified and set in stone. It may not happen this year, or next year, or in ten years, but we’ll win again.
After all, you can only ignore hundreds of millions of people for so long.

Well said! I don’t think I’ve ever thought about it in quite that way before, but there is certainly an inspiring ring of truth to it all.
Baby steps… It’s all about baby steps…
Love it!!! Couldn’t have said it better myself
